Project Overview
Islamorada, Florida
The Village of Islamorada contracted Weiler Engineering Corporation (WEC) to make substantial improvements to a City park known as the Tropical Plantation Preserve. The preserve is a 3-acre park with landscaping, small craft launch, trails and monuments. The park is located adjacent to the Overseas Heritage Trail at MM 90, bayside, in Islamorada. Weiler was tasked to make improvements to the park including a parking area and trail improvements, kayak and canoe launch ramp for water access, stormwater design, vegetation surveying and mitigation.
This project was in a very sensitive location due to the surface waters and mangrove fringe. Extensive coordination throughout design and construction with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Army Corps of Engineers and the Florida Department of Transportation was required so that the project ran smoothly. Due to the time frames of State grant funding which helped fund the project, the construction period was very time sensitive. The project was also in an area of low elevation and in immediate proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. Care was taken with vegetation selection to ensure the site would drain properly and there were no adverse effects of the adjacent salt water.
WEC also provided CEI services to ensure that the construction ran smoothly and that all activities were in accordance with the State and federal permits.
