Project Overview
The Harborwalk West project is a 15.7 acre park project located on Charlotte Harbor, the project includes seven different zones that encompass complete civil and structural engineering services for the pavilions, restrooms facilities, a playground, tennis courts, a basketball court, small vessel launch, parking, and a 20 foot walkway that connects Harborwalk East to Fisherman’s Village. Weiler Engineering Corporation was contracted by the city of Punta Gorda to reprogram the original design by removing the large stormwater areas from inside the park and relocating the parking to keep vehicular traffic within designated parking areas. To reduce the amount of required treatment for the park the design required splitting the vehicular areas from the non-vehicular areas, which do not require pre-treatment prior to discharge. Weiler’s design accomplished this maximizing the park area.
The City of Punta Gorda received LAP Funding for the construction of Zone 7. Weiler Engineering was then tasked with removing Zone 7 from the overall park plans that had been established and revising them to meet the PPM standards, modifying the Southwest Florida Water Management District Environmental Resource Permit, and extending the Department of the Army permit. WEC had to coordinate each phase of the redesign with FDOT and City staff to insure the design met the PPM standards to secure the funding.
