Parrot Key Hotel and Resort Entry
The Parrot Key Hotel & Resort is a classic Key West conch style 5 acre resort featuring three-story buildings with 148 hotel rooms, suites, and vacation rental each with views of either the resort’s four swimming pools or overlooking the Florida Bay. The property features a poolside bar café, fitness center, tropical sculpture gardens, and a private sunning terrace.
Weiler Engineering Corporation (WEC) was contracted for both the civil and structural engineering design aspects of this resort, which included permitting and design of sewer, stormwater, and water infrastructure, along with the design of the hotel buildings and dock facilities.
Some of the engineering challenges faced on this project were: the lack of development area for utility infrastructure. In an effort to provide all the amenities requested by the developer, WEC designed underground stormwater retention system utilizing 900 Stormtech chambers located beneath the parking lot, allowing full development of the property. WEC as also able to utilize some of the existing utility infrastructure significantly reducing the construction costs.

The client wanted to give lodgers a strong feeling of privacy with this development and incorporated heavy landscaping in the design. WEC worked directly with the Landscape Architect to ensure all utilities did not conflict with the landscape plans.
Most recently in Fall of 2017, after Hurricane Irma devastated the resort, WEC performed a complete damage assessment for the property, including structural evaluation for each of the two-story units. WEC also provided recommendations for repair and rehabilitation for all sixteen (16) of the resort’s buildings and amenity structures, as well as the damaged seawall and docks.
