Project Overview
Hawks Cay Resort is one of Weiler Engineering Corporation’s most famous projects, located on the secluded island of Duck Key. The resort features 60 acres of resort and marina development. The project required a fine balance between design for both pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The development included a 177 unit hotel, 247 condominium units, park areas, tennis, and basketball courts, walking and bike trails, docking facilities, a boat ramp and a convention center.
Engineering design services, and services during construction were provided for nearly every phase of this project including site, stormwater drainage and treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection and treatment facilities, docks, seawalls, environmental permitting and structural design for all of the homes and common facilities.
Most recently, WEC provided structural engineering services for the renovation and improvements to the luxury resort hotel.
The project is unique and complex as it required a subtle blend of the new single family/resort homes with the existing historic hotel and facilities as well as the sensitive environmental surroundings and a Development of Regional Impact that was created for a hotel complex and not necessarily single family homes.
Other design requirements that make this project unique include a wastewater treatment system located on an island adjacent to the resort utilizing the treated effluent for irrigation of the resort grounds.
