Project Overview
Weiler Engineering Corporation (WEC) was contracted to assist in the permitting for the removal for 4,543 SF of mangroves from a single-family lot on Champney Bay in Naples, FL. This residential lot, was purchased with the hope of clearing the existing mangroves to provide a superior view of the bay. The mangroves were such that they could not be windowed or hedged to provide the view of the bay. WEC was responsible for coordinating with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in order to obtain a Mangrove Alteration permit. The permitting process required obtaining 0.14 Forested Saltwater credits from the Little Pine Island Mitigation Bank.
In addition to the Mangrove Alteration permit, WEC assisted the client with obtaining an Exemption from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for the replacement of an existing rip rap revetment along the shoreline. WEC designed the new revetment that would replace the existing rip rap that was in disrepair and replace it with a new revetment that would provide adequate shoreline protection.
