The Marker Waterfront Resort constructed in 2014 on a 1.90 acre site located in down- town Key West just two blocks from Duval Street. Constructed in a typical Key West style, this hotel offers 96 luxury rooms, three pools, spa, meeting space & offices, a fitness center, restaurant, and pool bar, it is the premier choice for lodging in down- town Key West.
Weiler Engineering was responsible for the concept design and planning, civil design of the stormwater, sewer, and water infrastructure, regulatory agency coordination and permitting, and construction inspec- tion services throughout the duration of the project. As well as the structural design of the hotel building, four accessory buildings, retaining walls, site ramps with stairs, fences to meet 180 mph wind speeds, and 12-foot tall decorative wall.
Due to limited available land and strict parking requirements in Historic Key West, WEC designed a 63 space parking garage under the main hotel building. This garage was constructed partially below grade and required a unique approach to engineering the pump facility required to avoid flooding in the lower level. To date the system has functioned as designed with no known flooding issues.
This was also another project that required extensive design consideration for the stormwater management system due to the lack of pervious area. WEC utilized its knowledge in gravity injection wells and underground exfiltration systems to meet the objective of the private developer.
