Using the information provided in the calculations an 8-inch stormwater injection well was used to discharge the stormwater.

It was necessary to design parallel roadside swales within a narrow right-of-way for treatment, attenuation and conveyance of the stormwater runoff. To evaluate, analyze and design five separate off-site flood compensation areas to offset the impacts created by elevating the roadway above the 100 year flood elevation.

Various alternatives were considered prior to making a recommendation, with the final recommendation based on reduced permitting hurdles and full project costs.
- [Gordon Drive Residential Mangrove Removal](https://weilerengineering.org/projects/gordon-drive-residential-mangrove-removal/): Weiler Engineering Corporation (WEC) was contracted to assist in the permitting for the removal for 4,543 SF of mangroves from a single-family lot on Champney Bay in Naples, FL. This residential lot, was purchased with the hope of clearing the existing mangroves to provide a superior view of the bay. The mangroves were such that they could not be windowed or hedged to provide the view of the bay. WEC was responsible for coordinating with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in order to obtain a Mangrove Alteration permit. The permitting process required obtaining 0.14 Forested Saltwater credits from the Little Pine Island Mitigation Bank.

Laishley Park is a showcase part for the City which serves as the location of many events, festivals and concerts. There were numerous issues with the park, the most important of which as pour drainage which resulted in the park becoming mud from rain and foot traffic during events.  WEC evaluated the existing park and provided recommendations to the City.  Detailed design plans were then provided.
- [Warm Mineral Springs Health and Wellness Center](https://weilerengineering.org/projects/warm-mineral-springs-health-and-wellness-center/): Weiler Engineering Corporation (WEC) completed all civil and structural design and permitting for Medical Office Building that is part of the WMS Health and Wellness Center. This 10,901 sq. ft. medical facility is part of the world renowned Warm Mineral Springs in North Port, FL. WEC is the principal consultant for the redevelopment of the areas surrounding this natural mineral bath international destination, and was selected to provide a variety of professional services to the owner of the WMS Health and Wellness Center. WEC staff completed several applications for entitlements and concept plan approval through the City of North Port and Sarasota County. Included with this project was successful applications for a Future Land Use Map amendment to Activity Center #7, a text amendment to the Comprehensive Plan related to the Activity Center, a rezoning to Planned Concept Development (PCD), application for annexation, vacating of underlying platted lots, and preliminary design for Phase I, which includes a 20,000 square feet medical offices and rehabilitation center. As project manager, Jason Green oversaw a team of sub-consultants for environmental and historical assessments, survey, and site analysis. He and other WEC staff prepared the necessary applications and met regularly with North Port Planning staff to ensure each component was satisfactory to the City’s current codes and desired design for the community. Total entitlements approved include almost 300,000 sq. ft. of non-residential space, including an estimated 100-room hotel with a focus on medical-tourism.

Extensive coordination with SFWMD and the local Utility provider was required for this project.  In addition to the Sidewalk  and multi-use trail, the design also included elevated speed tables, which doubled as crosswalks, and the use of a textured pavement surface selected from the FDOT Qualified Products List.

This task required WEC staff to conduct public outreach, obtain a completed survey, and draft landscape design. The design included a playground, improved kayak launch, tennis courts, restroom facilities, community building, associated parking, concept stormwater management system, and infrastructure connections. In order to provide adequate design alternative WEC believed it was important to conduct a survey of what the Charlotte County residents wanted to see at the park. WEC staff spent 6 hours at a Charlotte County event at Bayshore Park talking to over 100 residents and received lots of great feedback and also recognized that many residents did not know the park existed. The outcome of the survey included the addition of nature trails, a splash pad, and many residents eager to see the park’s development.

The property features a poolside bar café, fitness center, tropical sculpture gardens, and a private sunning terrace.
- [Punta Gorda Harborwalk](https://weilerengineering.org/projects/punta-gorda-harborwalk/): The Harborwalk West project is a 15.7 acre park project located on Charlotte Harbor, the project includes seven different zones that encompass complete civil and structural engineering services for the pavilions, restrooms facilities, a playground, tennis courts, a basketball court, small vessel launch, parking, and a 20 foot walkway that connects Harborwalk East to Fisherman’s Village. Weiler Engineering Corporation was contracted by the city of Punta Gorda to reprogram the original design by removing the large stormwater areas from inside the park and relocating the parking to keep vehicular traffic within designated parking areas. To reduce the amount of required treatment for the park the design required splitting the vehicular areas from the non-vehicular areas, which do not require pre-treatment prior to discharge. Weiler’s design accomplished this maximizing the park area.

- [Gasparilla Island State Park Boardwalk Replacement](https://weilerengineering.org/projects/gasparilla-island-state-park-boardwalk/): The historic Port Boca Grande Lighthouse within Gasparilla Island State Park is the oldest structure on the island, having provided a beacon for mariners' safe passage through Boca Grande Pass since 1890. Other beach access boardwalks at this State Park have been rendered inaccessible and closed due to extensive erosion of the beach up to and including the frontal dune. Weiler Engineering Corporation (WEC) inspected the site and existing boardwalk and provided recommendations to FDEP, that being to demolish and replace with a vastly improved beach access structure. This high profile project adjacent to the historic lighthouse, and required a creative design that maximized longevity and Return on Investment of public funds while staying within the design requirements for expendable minor structures that are permissible seaward of the Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL). Environmental constraints to design including the presence of tortoise burrows and sea turtle nesting areas were also carefully factored into the design to avoid conflicts or disturbance. Weiler worked closely with FDEP Bureau of Building Construction (BDC) and Park staff and FDEP CCCL Reviewer to develop a design that paralleled the erosion face along the landward side of the frontal dune, before crossing the dune at the protected point of a buried coastal armoring structure (rock jetty), thereby minimizing the possibility of future erosion to this particular beach access boardwalk. Construction was completed one week before Hurricane Irma, and subsequent inspection revealed there was no substantial damage to the structure.
- [Dock/Boardwalk Assessment and Replacement – Collier-Seminole State Park](https://weilerengineering.org/projects/dock-boardwalk-assessment-and-replacement-collier-seminole-state-park/): Weiler Engineering Corporation (WEC) provided the civil and structural design for improvements at the Collier-Seminole State Park Boat Basin. An existing 520' seawall and wooden dock dating to the early 1960's at the Park's Boat Basin was in disrepair. WEC conducted and coordinated structural inspections including lead/asbestos testing of the existing facilities, and provided a report of findings and recommendations for repairs and/or replacement of the seawall, and demolition of the wooden dock which was beyond repair. WEC also provided design of improvements, to include a floating dock with gangway, an ADA accessible fishing platform at the site, and an ADA accessible kayak launch with parking. WEC also provided improvements to upland facilities including revisions to the parking, additions of ADA spaces, and addition of a 483' sidewalk with handrail incorporated into seawall.  Due to WEC’s structural assessment and findings related to the dock, boardwalk, and seawall, FDEP was able to avoid complete replacement, in favor of a much less costly repair and rehabilitation recommended by WEC.  These recommendations proved sound, as the existing seawall recently survived a direct landfall by Irma with no damage.

Weiler Engineering Corporation (WEC) recently completed a structural inspection and assessment of the existing fishing pier, as well as a feasibility report and concept designs for expansion of the facility as an amenity for over-water events accommodating up to 100 people. Following Hurricane Irma the resort contracted WEC to complete a complete structural inspection and assessment report for all hotel rooms and seven other amenity structures, along with design and recommendations for structural repairs.

The resort features 60 acres of resort and marina development. The project required a fine balance between design for both pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The development included a 177 unit hotel, 247 condominium units, park areas, tennis, and basketball courts, walking and bike trails, docking facilities, a boat ramp and a convention center.Engineering design services, and services during construction were provided for nearly every phase of this project including site, stormwater drainage and treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection and treatment facilities, docks, seawalls, environmental permitting and structural design for all of the homes and common facilities.

The new Fire Station One, located within City of Arcadia limits, would take the place of 2 existing fire stations, house 14 firefighters, include an apparatus bay for 12 fire trucks and ambulances and have expansion ability for inclusion of administrative offices in the future. The $1.8 million project was funded with a $750,000 State appropriation as well as local funds.
- [Mosaic Arena Arcadia Florida](https://weilerengineering.org/projects/mosaic-arena-arcadia-florida/): The resulting Mosaic Arena is the largest event venue in Charlotte or DeSoto County's, with the main arena structure consisting of 107,024 sq. ft. and a seating capacity of 7,796 on the 15.0 acre site. Design and permitting was completed in 2016, and with construction in 2017 (to be completed in February, 2018). In addition to Project Management related to all aspects of civil engineering, WEC was also responsible for the CEI during construction. With construction cost estimated at over $12,000,000, a number of value engineering proposals were considered and implemented during the course of the final design and permitting to accommodate the Rodeo's budget, as well as field expedient engineering and revisions during construction. Ultimately the new Rodeo Facility will be completed on schedule to open for the March 8-11, 2018 Arcadia All-Florida Championship Rodeo event at a total cost of construction of $8,000,000, or approximately 33% below the estimate.
- [Harbor Heights Boat Ramp Improvements](https://weilerengineering.org/projects/harbor-heights-boat-ramp-replacement/): Weiler Engineering Corporation (WEC) provided the design and permitting for the Harbor Heights Boat Ramp Improvements, which included the addition of two (2) piers, as well as replacement of the boat ramp and various improvements for ADA access. WEC worked closely with County staff and the Contractor (Kelly Brothers, Inc) throughout the construction and during the course of performing Construction Engineering Inspections (CEI). Kelly Brothers' (KBI) scope for construction included removal and replacement of the deteriorating County boat ramp at the Harbour Heights Park and a number of related improvements. The entire ramp area was dewatered using a steel sheet pile cofferdam and the ramp and approach were formed and poured in the dry. Four concrete piles were driven at the toe of the ramp for additional strength. All areas of the project site were upgraded to be compliant with ADA access requirements, including the approach sidewalk and the installation of heavy duty handrail along the raised sidewalk area. Two fixed piers, 5’x70’ & 5’x50, were installed with pressure treated decking and fendering for boat mooring to complete the project.

The existing site was very low and buffered by mangroves along the shoreline. In an effort to protect the site from flooding and preserve the existing mangrove fringe, WEC designed over 1200 LF of Rip Rap with geotextile soil reinforcement along the upland mangrove limits. This provided a berm separating the upland commercial site from the natural mangrove shoreline. The berm stopped direct discharge of untreated storm water into the sensitive Florida Keys waters. while protecting the mangrove fringe that is critical to the long term survival of the islands. WEC provided CEI for the work to ensure this critical feature was installed properly and with minimal effects on the natural vegetation and waterways of the surrounding area.
